Settlements for Life Insurance
Life Insurance Settlements
Life insurance cash settlements are again a payment up front to release an insurance
company's longer term obligation. In doing so the recipient usually takes a lesser cash value
that what the life insurance benefit may be worth fully executed.
For those who actually own the given life insurance policy only certain situations even allowed
any cashing out of a policy. Term life insurance plans have no cash value unless the person
covered dies. Permanent life and Universal life insurance plans have the potential of cash
value each, but holders either had to wait for the policy to either be triggered (i.e. the policy
holder died) or settle for whatever the life insurance company was willing to offer as a cash
out choice. Frequently, the cash out option was far less than the value of what was already
paid in.
A life insurance cash settlement is established through brokers rather than directly with the
insurance company a policy may be held with. In a weird game of poker and gambling, these
brokers take subject life insurance policies and bet that the payout will happen before the policy ends and lapses (i.e. the policy holder will die
early). In so doing, by owning a piece or the entirety of the policy holder's rights, the investors stand to make a profit on their investment. In turn,
the investment is paid to the policy holder to give him or her cash up front for the rights to the policy payout on death.
With the baby boomer generation going full swing into retirement, the idea of spending large amount of funds for a measly cash payout from an
insurance provider has been causing a number of folk second thoughts. Since the premium payments have already been made for years, many
feel that a life insurance cash out via a third party is more than appropriate, particularly when it can provide a boost to retirement savings and a
fixed income.
